Formatting Your Abstract

Before submitting your abstract online, please use the following links to download formatting instructions and an abstract template to prepare and save your abstract in MS Word.

Abstract Submission

Abstracts for all presentations must be no longer than 300 words in length

• Two learning outcomes must be submitted as part of the total word count of the abstract: Learning objective (1): ‘What will people in the audience gain or learn from attending this presentation?’
• Learning objective (2): ‘How is this topic/issue relevant to the promotion of sibling wellbeing where a brother or sister has a disability or chronic illness?

Also, we encourage you to suggest how your presentation might contribute to the broader discussion of how we can actively move forward in the area of sibling support, on a national level. This might include reference to policy, effective evaluation methods, development of ‘best practice’, and/or shared policies and procedures.

All abstracts MUST be submitted using the on-line template and the closing date for submission is 12th June 2009

Once you have prepared your abstract as a MS Word document using the template provided above, you will need to submit it online. Please follow the instructions for using the online abstract submission system.

When you click on the link below to submit your abstract, you will first be asked to register your details with the submission system. The password that you choose and your email address will be used to log into the submission system when your abstract is completed and ready to send.

On completion of your abstract submission and having answered all the mandatory questions, your abstract will be assigned a reference number and you will be sent an email confirming receipt of your abstract. If you do not receive a confirmation email, please contact the Secretariat at siblings09@sapmea.asn.au
Only abstracts submitted using the official template will be accepted for consideration.

Presentation Options

• Oral Presentation. This is a 20 minute presentation with 10 minutes for discussion and questions from the audience.
• Poster Presentation. This requires the presence of the author or authors at specific times as nominated during the conference period.  Posters remain on display for the entire conference.  Posters will be allocated a 1 metre high and 2 metre wide poster board.
• Workshops. These will be 60 or 90 minutes in length (including discussion time). Workshops need to be interactive, with at least 25% of the total time devoted to questions and answers or to group work. Submissions should include details (in less than 200 words) of how the workshop will be interactive.
• Creative presentations will be up to 30 minutes in length. These might include a demonstration of a sibling group activity, an exhibition, a play, musical interpretation or visual display depicting issues for siblings.

*Please note that time limits will be rigorously enforced to allow time for discussion.

Notification of result

Notification of acceptance or rejection of your submission will be via your e-mail address provided, no later than 30th June 2009.

Please Note:

• All presenters must register and pay for at least the day of the conference on which they are presenting.
• Papers must be presented by the authors – exception in an emergency such as an illness or misadventure.
• Where an abstract is submitted by more than one person, only the first author will be advised in writing about the acceptance or otherwise of the abstract submission.

All conference rooms will be supplied with data projection, networked PC at lectern, screens, microphones and audio speakers. Speakers will be required to bring their own disks, USBs or CDs containing the full presentation.
