Sponsorship & Exhibition Prospectus

Invitation

Siblings Australia is a unique national organisation committed to providing support for brothers and sisters of people with special needs; including disability, chronic illness and mental health issues. We provide workshops, print and web-based resources and networking opportunities for families and providers across Australia and overseas. The Siblings Australia mission is a simple yet powerful one: “Siblings: Acknowledged, Connected, Resilient.”

You are invited to participate in our 2nd National Conference to be held at the University of Adelaide from 18 – 20 November 2009. Sponsor and Exhibitor participation will play a pivotal role in the overall success of the event and this Prospectus outlines a range of opportunities available for you to consider.

Evidence shows that siblings of children with special needs can grow up in situations of considerable stress. Without the emotional and cognitive maturity to cope with their experiences and mixed feelings, these siblings can be at risk of developing long term emotional and mental health problems.

Siblings Australia acknowledges and recognises the needs of siblings; connects them with other siblings and people who can provide support, and explores ways to develop their resilience. The organisation aims to strengthen families by enhancing their ability to connect and support each other, as well as accessing support from outside the family.

The 1st national conference hosted by Siblings Australia took place in November 2004, and attracted 140 delegates, including 10 from overseas. It seems timely to create another opportunity for interested people from around Australia to connect; share experiences; learn about the latest research developments and consider the future of sibling support programs. Delegates will include practitioners, policy makers, and academics in the following areas:

Family members themselves will also represent an important component of the delegates.

We encourage your organisation to make a positive contribution by participating.
