Topic : Respiratory Emergencies
We will examine the patient presenting with difficulty breathing and consider immediate management priorities, differential diagnosis, role of investigations, treatment and disposition. The topic will be explored using a series of clinical case discussions and include examples of chest x-rays and blood gases, consider the increasing role of ultrasound in assessment and detail new approaches to providing respiratory support
Course Learning Outcomes
- Differentiate clinical findings distinguishing moderate, severe and life threatening respiratory distress
- Prioritise the immediate management of the adult with serious or life threatening respiratory distress
- Contrast the differential diagnosis and emergency management of acute respiratory distress
- Discriminate the roles of CPAP/BiPAP and high flow humidified nasal prong therapy in the management of severe respiratory distress
