This webinar is designed for GPs and provides a focused overview of polypharmacy in the context of ageing and multimorbidity. Participants will explore the clinical and system factors that contribute to complex medication regimens, learn to recognise high-risk medication combinations and vulnerable patient groups, strengthen communication around deprescribing, and apply structured medication review tools in everyday GP practice to improve medication safety and patient outcomes.

Learning outcomes:

  • Define polypharmacy in the context of multimorbidity and ageing and describe its clinical and system‑level drivers.
  • Identify high‑risk medication combinations and patient groups most vulnerable to medication‑related harm.
  • Use practical communication strategies to engage patients in shared decision‑making about medication reduction.
  • Integrate structured medication review tools (e.g., STOPP/START, Beers Criteria, frailty‑based approaches) into routine GP practice
