Join us for a practical workshop for GPs and Rural Generalists to strengthen skills in recognising, managing, and providing care for patients affected by Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) use and related mental health concerns. Set in the Barossa context, we’ll unpack the social drivers of substance use, reduce stigma, and address the early normalisation of alcohol and drug misuse.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Understand how Barossa’s alcohol culture shapes community health and youth attitudes.
  • Use evidence-based screening, brief interventions, and harm-reduction strategies for adults and adolescents.
  • Recognise and manage the overlap between AOD use and mental health concerns.
  • Strengthen triage and interim management skills for patients awaiting specialist or DASSA support.
  • Confidently engage adolescents (14–18) in safe, stigma-free, help-seeking conversations.
  • Connect with local services, schools, and community programs to support prevention and early intervention.
