Inviting all GPs, GP Registrars and Nurses to join the Burns Unit teams from Royal Adelaide Hospital and the Women’s & Children’s Hospital for an interactive workshop on the management of burns in rural and regional settings.

This practical session will provide valuable clinical insights, evidence-based approaches, and guidance on the timely assessment, initial management, and transfer of patients with burn injuries. Participants will gain knowledge and skills to support optimal patient care in rural and regional practice.

Learning outcomes:

  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of inhalation injury and discuss the importance of the early recognition of airway compromise
  • Implement the Wallace Rules of Nines or Lund and Brouder Chart when performing burn injury assessment and so creating safeguards against harm to patients
  • Identify the transfer criteria for patients with burn injuries
  • Perform an assessment and appropriately manage minor burns
  • Outline appropriate methods of first aid, including the management of chemical and electrical burns.
