his workshop aims to reinforce the basic understanding of the physiology of acid base disturbance.  The complexities of the various blood gas parameters will be distilled down to a logical step wise approach.  Learning will be enhanced by a series of case studies, where there will be opportunities to apply the learned concepts.


DiTP is designed for junior doctors, international medical graduates and trainees working in hospital and community settings.
 

The facilitator: Dr Herman Chua, Emergency, Emergency Medicine Consultant, Modbury/Gawler

  • Develop a stepwise approach to blood gas interpretation 
  • Describe and calculate compensation for metabolic and respiratory disorders 
  • Identify mixed acid-base disorders 
  • Correlate blood gas interpretation to the clinical context 
  • Understand basic electrolyte disorders involving sodium and potassium
