General Practitioners, Medical Officers, Nurses and Paramedics working in Emergency Care settings are invited to attend this interactive full day workshop delivered through large group sessions, skills station training and simulation training.

This workshop will focus on respiratory emergency patient scenarios and examine acute management in regional and rural settings. 

Learning outcomes: 

  • Undertake a systematic primary assessment to determine the cause(s) of shortness of breath
  • Assess and manage common causes of acute shortness of breath such as: severe obstructive airways disease, pneumonia, acute heart failure
  • Appropriately interpret investigations in shortness of breath
  • Perform procedures required to manage severe shortness of breath including different modes of oxygen therapy, NIV (non-invasive ventilation)
