Join our presenters and panel members as they discuss the ongoing relevance of ancient wisdom and ideas in health care. Learn how healthcare teams navigate and integrate the spiritual and western models to adopt a culturally sensitive approach to care.

Presenters and panel members:

Dr Ken Fielke - Consultant Psychiatrist
Ken is Fellow of both the Royal Australian College of General Practice and Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry. He is committed to the provision of services in rural and remote communities using a consultation and liaison approach.

Dr Claire Jarvis - Medical Officer for Iwantja and Mimili Clinics
Claire has experience in all aspects of General Practice, from treating young children to care of the elderly, pregnancy care, contraception and mental health issues. She has particular interest in chronic disease and aboriginal health.

Peter Taylor - Co-Director Aboriginal Health Cultural Lead Aboriginal Health Directorate BHFLHN
Peter is a Ngarrindjeri/ Narungga man with 15 years of experience in Aboriginal Community Health, ranging from experience in the Rural & Remote Acute Unit at Glenside Campus and Forensics in Mental Health at James Nash House. He is passionate about making a difference in the mental health outcomes for the Aboriginal community.

Dr Aparna Laddipeerla - Senior Consultant Psychiatrist, Hallett Team Mental Health Clinical Program CALHN
Aparna works at the Eastern Community Mental Health Team, Tranmere, and at the SAIDHS South Australian Intellectual Disability Health Service. Her training and work at Rural and Remote Mental Health Services RRMHS (2011-2021) gave her an understanding of the health needs for Aboriginal patients.

This will be a hybrid workshop. Attendance options:

  • In person - the workshop will be held at ANMF (Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation) located at 191 Torrens Rd, Ridleyton SA. Registrations and dinner start at 6:00pm, presentations will commence promptly at 6:30pm.
  • Online - the workshop will be streamed live via Zoom those wanting to attend online. The Zoom session will commence at 6:30pm ACDT.

This workshop is FREE to attend and a light dinner will be provided for those attending in person.

CPD information:

All participants will receive a Statement of Attendance following the session.

This workshop is pending accreditation with RACGP and ACRRM. RACGP and ACRRM members will have their CPD hours allocated following the session.
