EMET Program
Enhancing the quality and access to emergency care in rural and regional South Australia through the provision of emergency medicine education, training and supervision.
About EMET
EMET (Emergency Medicine Education and Training) is an Australian Government Department of Health funded education program administered by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM). SAPMEA has been appointed by ACEM, the peak body for emergency medicine in Australia to deliver the EMET program in South Australia.
The EMET Program aims to enhance the quality and access to emergency care in rural and regional Australia through the provision of emergency medicine education, training and supervision. As the majority of South Australian regional and rural hospitals are not staffed by Specialist Emergency Medicine doctors, the EMET program provides vital education and support to the general practitioners, medical officers, nurses, and paramedics who provide emergency care to these rural communities.
EMET also provides supervision and support for doctors working in EDs to complete the Emergency Medicine Certificate (EMC) and Associateship in Intermediate Emergency Medicine (AACEM).
SAPMEA EMET Hub
The SAPMEA EMET Hub runs three streams of EMET Programs:
- Adult EMET program – Adult emergency medicine topics delivered primarily in Eyre Peninsula, Flinders Ranges, Kangaroo Island and Victor Harbor.
- Perinatal EMET Program – Obstetric, Neonatal and Paediatric topics delivered statewide
- Emergency Medicine ECHO Program (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) – A virtual ‘hub and spoke’ learning and mentoring program that aims to build communities of practice for shared learning and peer support
Our faculty of facilitators are happy to deliver EMET wherever there is a need. So, if your local rural/regional team require emergency medicine education, please get in touch at emet@sapmea.asn.au.
Who is EMET for
EMET workshops are aimed at all General Practitioners, Medical Professionals, Nursing staff, Paramedics and Allied Health Professionals working within an Emergency Care Setting in a rural or regional hospital in South Australia.
